Holy Hell. This place is ... Weird. I mean even by Indian standards Tiruvannamalai is JUST PLAIN FREAKING NUTS.
Imagine with me now - Take any 'normal' Indian city (shudder) such as Mysore, or Trivanndrum, wherever. Now, imagine somebody SPIKED THE WATER SUPPLY WITH ABOUT A BILLION TONS OF HIGH GRADE LSD. Result? TIRUVANNAMALAI!!
This place is like some kind of pandemonic Bardo, not saying its bad exactly, not at all, but totally alien, otherworldly.
Take every single bizarre cliche you've ever heard about India (yes, there are Holy Cows every few feet around here) and transpose them to Mars or Pluto -> THAT'S NOT MADNESS, THAT'S TIRUVANNAMALAI !
