I have a love/hate thing with Non-Dualism. The Love comes in that I'm always attracted to anything absolute, radical, clear, and powerful. The firmest statements of "It's all Nothing" do have that quality in Spades. I mean, how can you beat this classic exchange:
Seeker: How should we treat others?
Ramana: There are no others.
Kick ass!
But then on the Hate side, see... Non-Duality in its purest form completely denies and belies any idea of progress. In that formulation, you are strictly fortune's fool. You are doomed to bumble (or more accurately, be bumbled) from one stupid pointless sideshow to the next, for all eternity. And nothing you can do to alter or stop that, whatsoever. Of course they'd say that's alright because you don't actually exist in the first place. But see, we think we exist, and experientially it amounts to pretty much six of one.
All the Buddhism and whatnot, teaching that through meditation or ritual or special initiation you're going to spring the joint with that file baked in your cake? That's all bullshit to the Neo-D's. So that part cuts across my grain of trying to learn stuff, and progress and advance and all that kind of martial artsy / Ashtanga type of progressive path crap. Not to mention, you can just totally forget about stepping permanently off the wheel of samsaric rebirth.
