Here's the energy architecture of Xingyi practice. There are layers of energetic activation.
- Untrained Baseline: this is the minimal built-in energetic charge that every bio creature has to keep their physical body functioning at all. This is the full-time charge status of people who've never trained in these arts at all. It's enough to stay alive. And of course if you're alive you can do a lot, you can for example condition yourself physically and mentally to become a kickass fighter, a steely-eyed dealer of death. I'm not dissing this status level, just explaining that I'm talking about something different than that.
- Trained Baseline - 'Always On' Charge: This is the normal walking-around energetic background elevation of internal trained people. It's when you aren't doing any practice, just daily life mode. But just because you have trained, you have developed a higher background energy than normal/untrained. This is what I mean in some of my books when I write about your 'Automaticity Quotient', meaning that this background energy has a kind of functional protective intellgence that can sometimes kick in and save you from some dangers "all on its own", kind of like a compansion guard dog who is passively and/or actively protective in various situations.
- Training Session Mode: Here you are in deliberate training mode. That means that throughout the whole session, not only at peak-strike time but during the entry steps, or while turning, or while starting or ending, and also during quiet standing intervals - throughout the whole things your full body charge is deliberately elevated above the AQ baseline level, using mental control.
- SNAP-SURGE Burst: Here's the fun part. When you're at activation 3, but then on each actual technique rep, you go through an XYQ technique rep (single technique), at the strike full extension, the instantaneous moment of full extension which would be the strike's impact, the energy that you've brought up through your whole body during the (fast, crisp, but not 'rushed') entry steps and motions of the technique culminates and explodes out (energetically) as a burst of power reaching to your striking surfaces (fist(s) or hand(s)).
Each level is qualitatively, clearly and obviously a whole new stage of power charge, it's more logarithmic (hyper!) than linear escalation at each next level.
